Who we are
Kesten General Contracting is a proud Veteran-owned and operated small business based in McMurray, PA, offering full-spectrum design + build services. Our journey began well before we officially started our business in 2020. For years, we spent our evenings and weekends renovating homes together while both working full-time jobs. Our projects were full-scale renovations, often taken down to the studs. We approached each one with care, ensuring every detail was done accurately, beautifully, and built to last. That hands-on experience, paired with a shared passion for transforming spaces, ultimately inspired us to take a leap of faith and turn our side work into a full-time business.
Since then, we’ve been dedicated to helping homeowners bring their vision to life—through custom renovations, large-scale additions, and everything in between. Quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a highly personalized approach are the cornerstones of everything we do.
What sets us apart is our commitment to excellence in both the details and the big picture. We believe every space should be as functional as it is beautiful, and we take great pride in delivering results that exceed expectations. Our work is not only a reflection of our professional standards but also of our family values. Our two young boys are already showing an interest in the trade—eager to help their dad whenever they can and counting down the days until they’re old enough to join him on the job sites.
At Kesten General Contracting, we treat every project as if it were for our own family—actually, even better! Our personal projects always take a back seat to client work and quality family time (so yes, if you're wondering—our own home is always under construction). We’d love the opportunity to connect, learn more about your goals, and explore how we can bring your ideas to life with care, creativity, and precision.
A little more about Bryan— construction is truly in his blood. He grew up surrounded by the trades—his dad owned a masonry business & built several houses; as well as many of his uncles specializing in different blue-collar industries. Bryan’s passion for building started at a young age, he admired and looked up to his family members, jumping in to help whenever he could. Sadly, his father passed away when Bryan was still very young, but there’s no doubt he’d be incredibly proud of everything Bryan has accomplished since.
Bryan’s entrepreneurial spirit showed early on—his first venture was the classic neighborhood lawn care business. By age 15, he began working for his uncle’s foundation company, where he gained hands-on experience, learned how to operate heavy equipment, and even earned his CDL. His passion for the field led him to join the Carpenters’ Union shortly after graduating high school. This is where he learned an immense amount about carpentry— from working on high rise buildings to many bridges around the Pittsburgh region. Here he grew from an apprentice to being a foreman for several of the biggest union companies in the area (fun fact: he was one of the project foremen who helped repair the damage on the Liberty Bridge after the infamous fire caused by a daytime crew).
While in the union, Bryan also enlisted in the Army National Guard, proudly serving for eight years—including a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. If it weren’t for our two boys, I’m certain he would’ve re-enlisted.
Throughout all of this, we were always working on homes—literally, always. Every house we lived in was a full renovation project. We’d live in the space while renovating it from top to bottom, and once it was complete, we’d sell it and move on to the next. It was in that constant chaos that our love for building and transforming spaces really took root, eventually leading us to start Kesten General Contracting. Now, we’re settled into our (hopefully!) forever home— which was a huge undertaking. We transformed it from a cape cod by ripping the roof off and adding on a full 2nd story & walk/up attic addition. Needless to say— we will always have a project that we are working on in our home!
